Project Dahlia's Mission
Project Dahlia aims to support homeless women in need of feminine hygiene resources by amplifying the work of existing organizations and creating sustainable touchpoints that connect these women to supportive services. Our goal is to empower women through hygiene to realize their capacity to overcome homelessness.
At the moment, we're focused on connecting with organizations already engaging with this community. Recently we've been prototyping hygiene kits, and applying for funding. We’re using these kits as a tool to start conversations with organizations and community members in order to build relationships and start to understand the gaps and needs regarding feminine hygiene.
About Project Dahlia
We are an interdisciplinary team of interaction design students with a breadth of experience in design, research, business, healthcare, education, sociology, and nonprofit work. We are passionate about blending our past experiences with design thinking and processes to help others.
Over the past six months, we have met many incredible people from our community and have been particularly touched by the stories of those who are homeless. As three young women, we can all relate to the fears of traveling alone at night, and cannot begin to fathom the hardships of not having a safe place to call home.
As we began to understand the needs in this incredibly complex ecosystem, we felt drawn towards the stories of the women in the homeless community. Our team feels a sense of responsibility to contribute our skills towards supporting these brave women who are on their journey towards overcoming homelessness.
